Portland Basin
Heritage Centre
You'll
find the museum on the canal side at Portland Basin in
Ashton-under-Lyne. Exhibitions on two floors tell the story of
how the area developed alongside the canal and shows typical
example's of life from the 1920's on a street including a house,
shop, chippy, grocers, pawnbrokers and more. You'll also find
a full working model canal with working model locks and boat
rides on some real narrow boats along the canal.
Museum is open
daily from 9am to 5pm except for Mondays when we close. We do,
however, open Bank Holiday Mondays.

Museum of the
Manchester's
This
museum, located in the Town Hall in Ashton-under-Lyne, tells the
history of the 63rd and 96th Foot Regiments which later merged to
form the Manchester Regiment in 1881. Including uniforms, a
mock battle field, video's, meddles and much more. experience
the sites and sounds of wartime Europe

An exhibition telling
the history of Tameside from the Celtic days to the present time.
Feature attractions include a 15th Century Market, olden day
figures, replica Armour and the Anderson air raid shelter.

The home of the Astley
Cheetham Art Collection and periodical exhibitions of local work is
